In this video, Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Certified Training Partner (CTP) Tasha Shaw-Verbic is “singing in the rain” as she and her dog Logan practice fun cues outdoors on a rainy day. Logan is sensitive to other dogs; practicing cues helps Logan focus on Tasha instead of the dog across the street.

Tasha says, “We carefully practice fun cues in distracting environments all the time. This time we practiced outside, in the rain, with access to an open field Logan could run in. He doesn’t even mind the dog across the street. Engagement makes all the difference!”

Using cues to help sensitive dogs in distracting environments can make getting out and about with your dog more enjoyable. However, if your dog is displaying severe reactive behavior, we recommend that you seek professional help from a qualified veterinary behavior specialist.
